Orphan Relative Visa (117/837)

The Orphan Relative Visa (subclass 117 where application made Offshore or 837 where application made Onshore) is a permanent visa for overseas orphan children. The orphan child can secure Orphan relative visa if they are sponsored by their family member/relatives who are currently living in Australia. This Australia Orphan Relative Visa allows orphan children to reside and stay in Australia on the permanent basis.

Who would an Orphan Relative Visa be suitable for?

The Orphan Relative Visa would suit a child who:
• is less than 18 years of age.
• not be involved in any de-facto relationship or marriage. The child should be single.
• The child is eligible only if their parents are dead, cannot be found or unable to take care of them.
• The sponsor should be Australian Citizen, permanent resident or an eligible New Zealand citizen.
• The sponsor should be your cousin, step-parents, brother, sister, grand parent who are either an Australian citizen/permanent resident or a New Zealand citizen.

Who can sponsor for the visa?

  1. To sponsor a child, the sponsor has to meet the following requirements. The sponsor should be an Australian citizen, permanent citizen or an eligible New Zealand citizen. The sponsor should be the relative or family member of the child.
  2. The sponsor has to meet the character and health requirements in order to sponsor a child.
